Backclick filter (Filter for reactions)

Backclick filter (Filter for reactions)

In addition to the profile filter, BACKCLICK also provides you with the Backclick filter. This filter works only if the LinkTracking is activated along with the range test in the mailing lists configuration. This filter examines the reactions of the subscribers. Currently BACKCLICK can show you subscriber reactions in real time, following:

  • The view of a HTML-formatted newsletter
  • A click on a hyperlink in a newsletter

Using the back-clicks and openings executed by the subscribers, you can discover more about their interests, and see that

those who receive your newsletter also get custom-designed information by e-mail. The Backclick filter makes it possible to

design target groups whose subscribers are filtered by checking their click behavior on hyperlinks. The back-click statistics

are the basis for this filtration. There you can see which hyperlinks have been selected frequently by the subscribers. While

using this filter, remember that Germany has special laws for the protection of data privacy. Since January 1, 2002, the new

tele-service Data Protection Act, known as “TDDSG,” is valid in Germany.

Datenschutz

Unlike the profile filter, this function does not let you export data. BACKCLICK measures the click behavior of subscribers, so that you can optimize control over future marketing campaigns. Collecting this data without the explicit consent of the subscriber is only permitted under the tele-service Data Protection Act (TDDSG) when the data is saved anonymously. BACKCLICK conforms to the legal requirements by storing this data anonymously in the system.

Operation and purpose of the
Backclick filter

The steps for sending newsletters in BACKCLICK are usually as follows:

  1. Choose a mailing list
  2. Enter the content of the newsletter
  3. Start sending

The number of subscribers who will receive the newsletter is defined by your choice of mailing list. It is impossible to limit the number of subscribers by defining characteristics, but you may create a target group newsletter for certain subscribers on the list. This target group newsletter will differ from the “universal” mailing list newsletter that is sent to a specific number of subscribers. While creating the target group list, you may define the number of subscribers who should receive the newsletter. This is done by choosing one or more results of the predefined filter. It is then possibly to send a special newsletter to all subscribers who clicked on a link in the last newsletter, such as http://www.backclick.de.

To create a target group newsletter, you need to follow these steps:

  • Create a new backclick filter
  • Create a target group newsletter (Write Newsletter -> Target Group Newsletter or Campaign Manager)
  • Select the BACKCLICK filter that should be used (target number of subscribers)
  • Save the newsletter
  • Send out the newsletter

The static quality Backclick filter

The Backclick filter is designed to update the number of subscribers on a special filter, only at the moment of creating, editing, and updating. For these actions alone, the corresponding target subscribers are also stored as sets of subscribers. An AUTOMATIC renewed query of the database WILL NOT be carried out before a newsletter is sent. If several days pass between creating a filter and sending the newsletter, for example, all changes made during this time period will NOT be taken into account on the subscriber’s database. If it is necessary to update the filter, you will need to do it manually.

New backclick filter

Here you may create a new BACKCLICK filter according to your wishes. All of the backclick links stored in the system are at your disposal.

Criteria for the search

The conditions for filtering out the subscribers are entered here. BACKCLICK does not limit the maximum number of conditions here, but these conditions should be chosen appropriately. The number of conditions should be limited to keep the evaluation as exact as possible, and to limit expenditures on your system.

There are three main criteria available:

[DOMAIN]: Selects all of the subscribers with the domain indicated as value, or all others (depending on the operator, this may be “equal to” or “unequal to”). Values are the domains of the subscribers, such as: web.de, aol.com etc. Only ONE value can be indicated per condition. For a choice of several domains, several conditions must be added.

[ENDDATE]: Selects all of the subscribers who signed on until a date indicated or limited here (this is ONLY possible when selecting the operator “equal to”). Values must look like this: DD.MM.JJJJ. If you want to limit the date more precisely, you may enter the time by putting a blank space next to the date, followed by SS:MM.

[STARTDATE]: Selects all of the subscribers who signed on from a date indicated or limited here (this is ONLY possible when selecting the operator “equal to”). Values must look like this: DD.MM.JJJJ. If you want to limit the date more precisely, you may enter the time by putting a blank space next to the date, followed by SS:MM. The time can be limited further; to be more precise:

The time can be limited further; to be more precise:

  • The time of a subscriber’s first click on one or several links that are defined in the second condition block
  • The time BACKCLICK sent a newsletter that contained links defined in the second condition block, and on which a click has taken place

The second condition block gives you a choice of links contained in the newsletter of single mailing lists. All of the mailing lists you have a right to are listed here. The mailing list you want to evaluate may be selected here, but according to the conditions, it is only possible to select ONE mailing list. If all subscribers who are in the system are to be evaluated, you must select [INDEPENDENT], because with this parameter, the evaluation takes place independently of the distribution lists. For example, all of the subscribers will be summarized in a target group who have both an e-mail address at the online service “aol” and clicked on the hyperlink “http://www.google.de” in one of the newsletters of the mailing list [INDEPENDENT]. To complete this example, at first the hits are limited to the domain aol.com. The criterion DOMAIN is to be selected in the first block of conditions, the operator should be “equal to,” and the indicated value is “aol.com.” We select the list from among the available mailing lists [INDEPENDENTLY] in the second block, and choose the operator “equal to.” At this moment, BACKCLICK is automatically loading all of the hyperlinks that ever were contained within newsletters of the list [INDEPENDENTLY].

(Subscribers who have just opened the newsletter, or canceled their subscription by using the “one-click unsubscribe” link, may also be filtered out independently in our example here.)

Test of the query

Up to this point, you will not know exactly how many subscribers your query applies to. To help you get a better idea of this number, BACKCLICK lets you execute a real-time test on the database. First, click on the -button. This will open a separate window in which you will see the number of subscribers who satisfy all the conditions. In this example, our target group would consist of one person.

Store the result of the filter

You may change the conditions as long as they fit your requirements, and until a sufficiently large or low number of subscribers is available. Please click on the -button afterwards. You will be led to the profile filter overview once more. Note that a click on the -button triggers both the query on the database and the storing. For complex filter queries, storing can last for some minutes! The profile filter just created will now be displayed in a list, with the details: “name (ID/number).” Without further configurations, this result is based on the database result at the time you clicked on the button “storing.” Even if another 100 women subscribed to the system afterwards, they would not be contained in this profile filter as subscribers. This is the so-called “static quality” of the profile filter. You may also update the filter before sending the newsletter. In that case, mark the check box “automatic update before the dispatch” (see figure below) while configuring the profile filter. This function then produces the dynamic quality of the profile filter.

Update filter result

To get the number of subscribers that currently exist in your system before you send a newsletter using one of these

Backclick filters: Select the function “filter result update” that is displayed as a check box. The result of the Backclick filter will

then be updated to its current status. After you choose the function “filter result update” by marking the check box, select the

Backclick filter you want to update by opening the drop-down list. Clicking on the -button will open a separate

window that displays the name of the filter, and the number of agreements (subscribers) with the filter conditions.

Change the Backclick filter

If you would like to change the query conditions for a certain filter, mark the check box next to “change Backclick click filters,”

and select the corresponding filter using its name. Click on the -button afterwards. You are now in the familiar

Query Editor. All attitudes and conditions are restored using the petitions you set when creating the filter. You can change,

test, and store these details now.

Erase a Backclick filter

If you do NOT need a certain filter any longer, you can select and erase this filter by name. Confirm the safety query by

clicking on the -button if you really want to erase the filter.

The -button will lead you back to the main menu, “Search target group,” without storing the attitudes that were

carried out previously.
